The Benfica striker says the game brings back great memories of the last encounter in 2000 when he scored twice as Kevin Keegan's England fell to a 3-2 defeat.
"England-Portugal brings back memories of the European Championships in 2000, and those are pleasant memories," said Gomes.
"But things have moved on since then
"I hope that we can come back from England with a good result, above all else.
"We know this is an important game, we have a will to win because we are a strong team and we want to win every game."
Gomes has suffered a knee injury recently, but hopes that the problem will not keep him out of the game at Villa Park on Saturday.
"It was a normal injury, I stepped on the ball and twisted my knee," he revealed. "I still have some pain but it will not stop me playing.
"It has already improved during the night but it is still early, although I am confident that I will be able to play."
