Sven Goran Eriksson is confident England's rookie defensive partnership will cope.Sven Goran Eriksson is confident England's rookie defensive partnership will cope with Colombia in New York.
Due to an increasing injury list, Eriksson has chosen Zat Knight and Glen Johnson as his pairing at the back for Tuesday's friendly against Colombia.
Knight only made his international debut as a substitute against the United States on Saturday, while Johnson's more familiar role is at right back.
With Sol Campbell and Wes Brown both injured, Eriksson had little option but to take the risk of playing Knight and Johnson together.
But, having spoken to the Fulham defender, Eriksson is hopeful that the duo's inexperience will not be disadvantageous.
"I spoke to Zat, he was very confident it will be alright," said Eriksson.
"He said there will be no problem. They have never played together but I look forward to it very much."
Eriksson will also give a debut to Peter Crouch after the Southampton striker missed the win over the USA due to an ankle knock picked up in training.
Crouch will start alongside Michael Owen against the South Americans and Eriksson is anxious to have a closer look at the angular front man.
He added: "I look forward to seeing him. I've always said he's different and is a good player on the floor.
"But up there he's fantastic with his height. I hope he will go on being better and better. If he goes to the World Cup, who knows?"
In addition to Owen being available against Colombia, Eriksson also includes captain David Beckham and the Three Lions boss is grateful to have the Real Madrid team-mates in his side.
Eriksson continued: "Of course it's good to have David and Michael here. It's good for us and football in America.
"It's good we have the two most famous football players performing here.
"We will have to work very hard for it. Colombia are technically very good at keeping the ball but we're optimistic."
