Ferdinand back in favour

Rio Ferdinand looks set to be preferred to Sol Campbell for England's clash with Argentina.

Rio Ferdinand looks set to be preferred to Sol Campbell for England's clash with Argentina.

Although only a friendly and still some seven months away from the World Cup finals - it is seemingly a massive hint to the thinking of coach Sven Goran Eriksson.

Ferdinand was dropped for the first time in his Three Lions career only last month when Eriksson benched him for the World Cup qualifier with Austria.

The Manchester United stopper has struggled all season with his form, but despite this he has been handed a reprieve after reportedly impressing during training.

The news will be a huge blow to fit again Campbell, whose hopes of starting in Germany could now possibly rest on the formation Eriksson adopts - although it seems unlikely he will stray away from his favoured 4-4-2 after he disastrously tweaked his system against Northern Ireland.

Despite Campbell's failure to hold down his spot, a third centre half could well be included in the shape of Ledley King - but he would again be asked to play the anchor role in midfield.

Chelsea's Wayne Bridge also looks set to play his first England game in 12 months, after finally returning to full fitness after a badly broken ankle.
