Black Cats striker to miss England game with hamstring injury

Darren Bent will miss England's friendly against France after Sunderland confirmed the striker is out for up to three weeks. The 26-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in training prior to Saturday's win over Stoke City and scans have confirmed it is a grade one problem. It means Bent is likely to be sidelined for the next few weeks and the injury will force him out of Fabio Capello's plans for the game against France. Bent scored his first England goal against Switzerland back in September and was expected to be included in Capello's squad for next Wednesday's game at Wembley. The former Tottenham Hotspur forward's injury will also be felt at club level after scoring eight goals for Sunderland so far this season. The onus will now fall on Asamoah Gyan, who replaced Bent in the starting line-up against Stoke at the weekend and responded by scoring both goals at the Stadium of Light. Gyan is the only other Sunderland player to have scored this season and will lead the attack for Tuesday's game at Tottenham.
