QPR manager Neil Warnock feels new signing Joey Barton will return to the England team as soon as Fabio Capello leaves the managerial post.
Despite more than four years passing since Barton's only international appearance, as a substitute in England's 1-0 defeat by Spain in 2007, his new boss is adamant it is only a matter of time before he adds to it.
Capello had previously stated that Barton was "too dangerous" to pick for England and that they "could end up playing 10 v 11".
Warnock feels however that Barton is as good as anyone in the England setup, saying: "If Joey's good enough, he will get in the England team, and Capello won't be here in 12 months, so that won't be a problem.
"He can play for any of the top teams in the country. If I were the England manager he would probably be playing.
"But Capello is the manager and he picks his players. Every manager has their own way.
"Joey will flare up every now and again, but that's the nature of all of us, we all have our moments, but he has been a revelation since he's been here.
"Without his problems there is no way we'd have got him. Now the problems are all mine.
"But I'm not bothered - I've seen it and done it all."
Warnock also revealed that Barton is more intelligent than he is given credit for.
"I didn't realise he was so articulate and clued up. I might even give him a copy of my autobiography now - before, I thought he could only look at the pictures!"
