Steven Gerrard is 4/5 favourite to skipper England for the opening match of Euro 2012 with Sky Bet after John Terry was stripped of the captaincy.
The FA confirmed on Friday that the Chelsea defender would not captain his country at the tournament in Poland and Ukraine and the online betting company has installed the Liverpool skipper as the front-runner.
Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker is 3/1 (from 10/1) to take the armband for the opener against France, with Terry's Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard is available at 8/1, with Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry 9/1.
Former England captain Rio Ferdinand has already ruled himself out of the running and Sky Bet's PR Director Dale Tempest believes England may need to look for a new skipper.
He said: "Scott Parker leads by example on the field and we have already seen quite a bit of money for him to get the armband.
"He has really driven the Spurs midfield and is one of the main reasons they are in contention for the title this season."
He added: "Steven Gerrard will probably stay the favourite, but it remains to be seen whether he can stay fit for the rest of the season."
