Villa boss admits 'results have not been good enough'

Alex McLeish slammed Aston Villa's performance as they were outclassed in a comfortable 2-0 win for Norwich at Carrow Road. First-half goals from Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson proved enough for the Canaries to win for the first time in five games while Villa will be glad to see the back of this campaign. The West Midlands side were already safe before they made the trip to Norfolk, but this has been a dreadful season for them and they cross the line just two places and two points clear of the relegation zone. "I thought it was a woeful performance - absolutely shocking," McLeish admitted to Sky Sports. "I've got to be succinct and straight to the point. I think that there is much more I want to say. "We looked very, very flat for some reason and Norwich looked really bright and spritely. You know that team needs to change and there will be change. "That was not an Alex McLeish team today." Asked what he thought about the club's position on contracts with reports that Carlos Cuellar and Emile Heskey are set to move on in the summer, he said: "Well, we've not spoken yet. We haven't officially had a chat with the representatives or indeed the players. "I know the players tend to disappear at the end of the season and go on holiday, but I'll be changing that rule next season as well."

Quality

And on his own future, he said: "The dialogue (with Randy Lerner and the rest of the board) I expect is we will have to look to bring in more quality into this squad. "The results have not been good enough for Aston Villa and I totally agree with the fans' frustration. "It's up to me to turn fans' opinion and I've done it before and I can do it again. I've won trophies and medals all my life as a player and as a manager and you know that doesn't turn me into a bad manager overnight."
