England midfielder Scott Parker declared Monday's 1-1 draw with France a "good result" and feels they have something to build on.
Joleon Lescott's header gave England the lead on the half-hour mark before Samir Nasri's strike levelled things up before the break.
England were forced to battle hard and appeared to tire in the heat, but managed to hold on for a point that Parker believes could be vital.
"I think it was a good result, really," said Parker.
"You've got to give yourself a good base and a good foundation. Certainly today does that for us because we didn't lose the game.
"It was a difficult game in difficult circumstances with the weather and we can build on that.
"In the circumstances, I think all the boys, including the lads that came on, did a fantastic job."
England take on Sweden in Kiev on Friday before returning to Donetsk to play co-hosts Ukraine in the final group game on June 19th.
And while Parker acknowledges that England would appear to have overcome the trickiest fixture, he will not be taking anything for granted in the remaining fixtures.
"In a tournament, no game is easy and our record against Sweden is not great," added Parker.
"Obviously to play Ukraine at home is going to be difficult but obviously on paper this was the toughest game and it's something to build on."
