David Beckham has praised the current England squad after their strong start to the European Qualifiers

David Beckham says England are in prime position to put their World Cup heartbreak behind them as they bid to secure qualification for Euro 2016.

Roy Hodgson's side have won all six of their qualifying matches in Group E and would seal their place in France next year with victories over San Marino and Switzerland in the next week.

A win in San Marino on Saturday could even see them qualify if Slovenia fail to beat Switzerland later in the evening.

And after the disappointment of the group stage exit in Brazil last year, Beckham believes the national side looks in a much healthier state and had words of praise for captain Wayne Rooney.

"We're in a strong position," the Sky Sports ambassador told SSN HQ. "We've got a young team, an ambitious team, a captain that wants to win.

"He wants to lead these players into a competition and wants to fight for every game and wants to win every game.

"We've got a lot of young players coming through and a few that are at the top of their game. When you have a young team you have the unity that comes with that.

"I spoke to Wayne the other day. The players and team are in a good position, they are very happy with the way everything is going and they want to win."
