Harry Kane has backed Wayne Rooney to break the England goalscoring record in the upcoming games against San Marino and Switzerland.

Rooney is just one goal away from equalling Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 49 international goals and, if he does, Charlton will present him with an award next month.

Kane, who is on the hunt for goals himself, believes Rooney is still "an incredible talent" and the Tottenham striker is looking to emulate his colleague from Manchester United.

Harry Kane is confident that he will start scoring goals again soon and hopes to start this Saturday against San Marino.

"It's great to be able train with him, learn off him and be able to talk to him as well. He's an all-round top player and a top man.

"Hopefully he can break the England goal-scoring record on this trip. Everyone is excited for him and I'm sure he's excited as well. I'm sure he wants to get it done as soon as possible, so everyone is rooting for him.

"San Marino is a great game to try and do that, but he knows the three points is the most important thing to get. We know if we beat San Marino then we are qualified so hopefully we can get the job done.

"There are four more games left in qualifications and we want to win them all,  take that into the friendlies and on into the Euros. We are not taking the foot off the pedal. If anything, we are putting the gas down to try and prove for the tournament."

Kane is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this season and he has only scored twice in his last 12 games for Spurs.

It has been suggested he has not had a sufficient break during the summer after going with England's Under-21s to their European Championships, but he insists it has given him vital experience.

Kane said: "I made it clear that I wanted to go to the U21s and it was a great experience for me.

Obviously as a striker I want to be scoring. San Marino is a good chance for us to get the three points and hopefully get some goals.

"Obviously it didn't go as well as I wanted but it was all about learning that experience - what the hotel is like, what the games every three to four days, the training, and preparation for teams when you only have two or three days to do it.

"It has helped me especially with my international football and hopefully take that into next year's Euros.

"Obviously as a striker I want to be scoring. San Marino is a good chance for us to get the three points and hopefully get some goals. So if I'm called upon, hopefully I'll do that."
