Kenny Miller has accepted the blame for Scotland's 2-0 defeat to Italy.Kenny Miller has accepted the blame for Scotland's 2-0 defeat to Italy, admitting he should have scored with a glorious chance to level the game.
Miller was put through one-on-one with Gianluigi Buffon with the game poised at 1-0, but fluffed his lines and made things easy for the Azzurri custodian.
"I should have scored, simple as that. I had to do better from that position," said Miller.
"We have spoken all week in training about my role in the team and we knew I'd get one chance.
"It came and, if I am one-on-one with the keeper, I have to score.
"But the ball got stuck between my feet and I didn't get a clean strike."
Miller also paid testament to Buffon - who made an outstanding save to deny Nigel Quashie at a crucial juncture - and Andrea Pirlo's brace of top notch free-kicks that gave him both goals.
"Quaz hit a fantastic volley and even when Buffon got his hand to it, I thought he couldn't possibly stop it. But that's why you pay so much money for a keeper.
"The result was disappointing given how hard we worked and how much we put into the game.
"But Pirlo's free-kicks were amazing. To get them up and down from where he did and into the corners was super technique and you've got to applaud that."
