Kenny Jackett has hinted that out-of-favour Sam Ricketts could yet be handed a new deal at Molineux.

Wolves skipper Ricketts has not played a minute in the Sky Bet Championship this season despite featuring in 44 of 46 league games last season during the club's promotion campaign.

The 32-year-old has only appeared in the Capital One Cup this time around, scoring in the 3-2 defeat by League Two Northampton in the first round.

But Jackett insists the defender is not out in the cold and remains a key part of the squad.

I wouldn't rule it out that Sam Ricketts will earn a new contract during the course of this season.

"I wouldn't rule it out that Sam Ricketts will earn a new contract during the course of this season," Jackett told the club's official website.

"Sam knows this can happen in football and he's coped very professionally.

"He hasn't wavered in anything he's done and has been a real team man and a club man.

"I've picked the same side in the league so far but it's very close in a number of positions.

"Sam could come into the team and it wouldn't be any weaker and that's good, although slightly frustrating for him.

"He's been really professional and I wouldn't expect anything else from him."
