Sanchez loses defensive duo

Chris Baird and Mark Clyde will miss Northern Ireland's qualifier against Austria.

Northern Ireland duo Chris Baird and Mark Clyde have been ruled out of the World Cup qualifier against Austria through injury.

The defenders are both struggling with ankle injuries and will not make the clash on Wednesday night.

Southampton full back Baird picked up his complaint in the 0-0 draw with Azerbaijan last weekend.

Clyde, who plays for Wolves, sustained a problem in training on Tuesday, and it has failed to respond.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Lawrie Sanchez will start with Roy Carroll in place Maik Taylor for the game with Austria.
