Northern Irish hero David Healy was overjoyed following his hat-trick against Spain.

The Leeds forward bagged all the goals as his country recorded a famous 3-2 victory at Windsor Park in their Euro 2008 qualifier.

"I love nights at Windsor Park. Everybody felt we let people down on Saturday [against Iceland]," said Healy.

"The players were more disappointed than the fans on Saturday but tonight we showed our character more than anything.

"We've bounced back and it's a massive occasion."

Captain Aaron Hughes was equally ecstatic at the victory.

"We're delighted not just with the result but how we went about it," he told BBC Northern Ireland.

"Hopefully we answered a few things that were asked of us and hopefully shut a few people up. We were disappointed on Saturday but got our just rewards today.

"We've beaten one of the best teams in the world."
