The Northern Ireland international has made eight appearances for Newcastle this season, including two starts in the Europa League. He also scored a fantastic goal for his country against Finland in August.
Ferguson has explained that his form has been improved due to continuous weights work in the gym, at the request of manager Alan Pardew.
"I am in the gym every day doing stuff with the fitness coaches," Ferguson told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
"I just have to keep working hard now. You just want to get stronger each day.
"That's what the manager wants me to do - stay fit and keep working hard in the gym. I am doing all the extra stuff, and I just have to make an impact whenever I get the chance.
"When I first broke into the side, it was really tough, but now I am starting to get used to it now. It is a lot easier now for me."
Ferguson will hope to start for Northern Ireland in their qualifier against Azerbaijan on Wednesday, although Chris Brunt may return from injury.
