Valencia striker Paco Alcacer will hope for a chance to impress after Diego Costa was left out of Spain's squad to face Luxembourg and Ukraine. The 22-year-old is rated as one of Spain's top young prospects and he has already scored four goals for his country in just a handful of appearances - the last of which came in a 2-1 win over Costa Rica in June.

Alcacer is strong, speedy and direct, and he was a key figure in Valencia's fourth-placed La Liga finish last season, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 32 appearances. Croatia are two points behind second-placed Norway in Group H, but they will be confident of taking maximum points against Bulgaria and Malta. Elegant, ball-playing midfielder Mateo Kovacic is likely to feature prominently. The 21-year-old joined Real Madrid from Inter Milan in the summer for a fee that could reportedly rise to £25m. The move came as a surprise to some as he wasn't even a guaranteed starter in Serie A, but he is an exciting talent with considerable potential.
