Dutch heavily backed to open with a win against Danes

The Netherlands are strong favourites to kick off their Euro 2012 campaign with a win against Denmark on Saturday. The Dutch, 6/1 shots with Sky Bet to win the tournament, cruised through qualifying scoring a staggering 37 goals in 10 matches including an 11-0 win against part-timers San Marino. Bert van Marwijk side's strength is their wealth of attacking flair through the likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Rafael van der Vaart. Unsurprisingly, Van Persie (9/1) heads the betting alongside Germany's Mario Gomez to finish as the tournament's top goalscorer and the in-form Arsenal skipper is 100/30 to open the scoring against the Danes at the Metalist Stadium. It's the same price for Schalke striker Huntelaar, who scored 12 times en route to the finals from 25 shots, while Robben is a 6/1 shot. Denmark also topped their group to reach Poland and Ukraine, but are outsiders to progress from Group B and are a 5/1 shot to upset the Dutch, who are 8/13 and likely to be even shorter come kick off. The Danes' biggest goal threat is Nicklas Bendtner and the Sunderland loanee is 8/1 to open the scoring and 11/4 to score anytime. The sides have met twice before in the tournament with the Netherlands winning 3-0 in the group stage in 2000 and Denmark winning a penalty shootout in the semi-finals in 1992. The Netherlands have made it out of the group stage in their last six appearances at the Euros - the only side to do this - and are 8/15 to progress and 15/8 to finish ahead of Germany in the group.
