The Italian press had claimed that team morale was not the best due to the fact that Vieri and Buffon had a row before the match with Sweden.
Vieri has reacted furiously to these comments and has vowed not to speak to the press again after the matter.
"This is the latest invention that you have invented," Vieri told reporters.
"This is the last day that I speak to you. You can talk about football matters, I've never cared less about what you write anyway.
"You can say what you want about me as a player but when you offend me as a person, well I am more of a man than all of you put together.
"You can say I am not in shape and that I don't score goals anymore. Like I say, I don't care anymore because I live for myself not for you.
"But you have made up so many stories now. We have always respected your work but there hasn't been any respect for us in return. You massacre us from morning to night."
Buffon also denied reports of a bust-up and added to the attack on the media.
"This stuff is all wrong. If there is criticism of the way we play then fair enough but personal attacks and false reports are offensive," said the goalkeeper.
"The fact that the press are just looking for a row was shown by the way you attacked Trapattoni after the Sweden game.
"He made the right choices during the game. No one is to blame for that result except Ibrahimovic for scoring that goal."
Meanwhile, Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has returned home after his wife gave birth to their first child.
Gattuso is suspended for their final Group C match with Bulgaria after collecting two yellow cards in the previous games - so has been allowed to fly home.
