Lippi: My squad's taking place

Italy coach Marcello Lippi admits he has almost decided on his final World Cup squad.

Italy coach Marcello Lippi admits he has almost determined his final World Cup squad of 23 and has given a boost to the hopes of Fillipo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero.

The Azzurri have until May 15 to formally announce their squad but after two years in charge of the national side, Lippi is very close to finalising his plans.

Lippi did concede, however, that there could be one or two places still up for grabs.

"After two years in the job I have very clear ideas, although there are some other possibilities that I want to consider right to the end," said Lippi.

Lippi is pleased with the form of experienced strike duo Inzaghi and Del Piero although there was a warning for another World Cup hopeful, Real Madrid's Antonio Cassano.

"Inzaghi's in great form," added Lippi. "Del Piero's in good form too and he's slowly becoming a contender to be an integral member of the squad.

"Antonio knows that to come back in the national team, he will have to get back to playing with Real and show me what he can do."

Lippi also played down suggestions that he would like to return to Juventus upon leaving the Azzurri but did reveal an interest in managing in The Premiership.

"You can never say what can happen. One thing is for sure though, I'd like to try a foreign league, maybe England or Spain."
