Totti primed for Swiss role

Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero will both start Italy's friendly with Switzerland.

Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero will both start Italy's friendly with Switzerland on Wednesday.

Azzurri coach Marcello Lippi has plumped for a three-pronged attack for the game, with Totti and Del Piero playing off a main striker.

Lippi has yet to decide who will spearhead the attack, with Luca Toni or Alberto Gilardino likely to be given the nod.

Totti will use the game to continue his quest for full fitness after an ankle injury suffered in February and Lippi is looking forward to the game.

"The choice of an attacking trio is tactical, with Del Piero on the left," said Lippi.

"Totti, who is making his return, will be put in a condition to work less hard.

"If we take Totti to Germany it is because he's in condition."

The Roma captain is looking forward to his competitive return to action, after proving the sceptics wrong.

Totti said: "I work a lot and I feel really good."

Meanwhile, Simone Perrotta provided Italy with a minor injury scare in the final training session before the game with Switzerland.

Perrotta took a knock to the knee, although the Azzurri's medical staff are not too concerned about the injury.
