Italy got their Euro 2008 qualification campaign off and running.
Italy got their Euro 2008 qualification campaign off and running with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Stadio Olimpico.
Having picked up just one point from their first two fixtures, it appeared Roberto Donadoni's side would be in for another night of frustration until a late breakthrough.
Andrei Rusol's foul on Luca Toni handed the Azzurri a 71st minute penalty which Massimo Oddo despatched in style.
Toni made sure of the victory eight minutes later when he volleyed home Antonio Di Natale's left-wing cross.
Lithuania claimed their first win in Group B after a late 1-0 success in the Faroe Islands.
The Baltic nation dominated proceedings in Torshavn, but found the Faroes in resilient form, with goalkeeper Jakup Mikkelsen making a number of saves for the home side.
It proved not enough in the end, as Lithuania broke the hearts of their hosts with a last minute winner from Andrius Skerla on his 50th appearance for his country.
Skerla headed home Mindaugas Kalonas's outswinging corner from the right to give Lithuania three valuable points away from home.
