Azzurri call on keeper

Morgan De Sanctis has been added to Italy's squad to face Scotland on Wednesday.

Udinese goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis has been added to Italy's squad ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifier against Scotland.

The Azzurri's established number one Gianluigi Buffon is currently struggling following a stomach upset and coach Roberto Donadoni is not keen to take any chances.

The Juventus shot stopper missed training for the second day in a row on Monday and Donadoni has reacted by calling on De Sanctis.

The Udinese man - who just missed out on making Italy's victorious World Cup squad - will act as Christian Abbiati's deputy if Buffon fails to recover in time for the game in Bari.

Italy are desperate to record a win as they currently lie five points behind Group B co-leaders Scotland and France - albeit with a game in hand.

Donadoni has now hit out at the Italian media for prematurely judging his side after a slow start to qualifying.

"If results do not arrive, it is right to criticise and draw conclusions," Donadoni said in a press conference.

"Let this national team play. I don't understand because there are trials before things happen.

"I'm not angry, but I don't want my education to be confused with a lack of guts.

"I felt a certain longing for the past, and I don't agree with this."
