Leaders Italy won again to remain five points clear, while Slovenia strengthened their hold on second place.

Top two both win to strengthen qualification claims

Italy won again to maintain their commanding lead in Euro 2012 qualifying Group C, while Slovenia strengthened their hold on second place. Unbeaten Italy claimed a comprehensive 3-0 triumph over Estonia in Modena, with Giuseppe Rossi opening the scoring in the 21st minute. Antonio Cassano then doubled the lead six minutes before half-time before second-half substitute Giampaolo Pazzini wrapped up the win in the 68th minute. The result leaves Cesare Prandelli's side five points clear of Slovenia with four matches remaining, and with a game in hand. But Slovenia will be equally pleased with their night's work after they saw off the Faroe Islands despite playing for 65 minutes with 10 men. The score was 0-0 and there were 25 minutes on the clock when Marko Suler chopped down Christian Holst to earn a straight red card. But soon afterwards his side took the lead as Valter Birsa whipped in a free-kick from the left and Tim Matavz fired a right-footed shot into the roof of the net. The visitors got a second a minute after half-time when the unfortunate Rogvi Baldvinsson headed into his own net from a corner. The result sees Slovenia move three points clear of third-placed Serbia, having played a game more.
