Italy forward will not return from heart operation for six months

Italy striker Antonio Cassano admits he is a major doubt for Euro 2012 as he needs six months to recover from heart surgery. Cassano, 29, underwent an emergency operation in November and is cautious about the timeframe for his return to action. Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has said he hopes to include the AC Milan forward in his squad for the summer tournament in Poland and Ukraine, where Prandelli's men open their Group C campaign against defending champions Spain on 10th June. "It was a shock. The important thing was to get back to daily life. I'm going to have to wait six months to play. In the meantime, I walk, walk, walk," Cassano said on Italian television. Another of Italy's striking options, Giuseppe Rossi, is also in a race to make Euro 2012 due to a long-term knee injury. Prandelli plans to call up veteran Antonio Di Natale to play alongside Mario Balotelli in February's friendly against the United States.
