Klinsmann allays Ballack fear

Michael Ballack is expected to be fit for Germany's friendly against Luxembourg.

German national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann believes Michael Ballack will be fit for their World Cup warm-up match against Luxembourg at the weekend.

The midfielder was forced off with an ankle sprain in the 12-0 hammering of Servette Geneva under-18s on Thursday and was told he needed to rest the problem for a few days.

However, Klinsmann is confident his captain will take the field against their neighbours after playing down the injury.

"We assume he'll be able to play," Klinsmann confirmed.

"There's no problem and there's nothing at all to worry about."

With wins over Servette's senior and junior teams this week, many may question the need for a third game in a matter of days, however striker Miroslav Klose is adamant the squad need to get as many games as possible under their belt.

"We need these international games," added Klose. "There's a lot to work on in terms of our tactics.

"There are some things you just can't do in training, like perfecting the way we press."

Following the match at the weekend, Germany have friendlies with Japan and Colombia before opening the World Cup on June 9 against Costa Rica.
