Germany star Lukas Podolski has called on his team-mates to finally end their Italian hoodoo and make it through to the Euro 2012 final.
Joachim Low's side are preparing to take on Italy in Thursday's semi-final knowing they have not beaten the Azzurri in seven previous tournament matches, including two World Cup semi-finals and one final.
Podolski was involved the last time Germany faltered against Italy at a major tournament, an agonising 2-0 extra-time defeat in the 2006 World Cup semi-final on home soil.
However, they will begin Thursday's match in Warsaw as favourites having won all four of their Euro 2012 games so far.
Arsenal-bound forward Podolski insists the team have improved dramatically since 2006 and believes the moment has come for Germany to come out on top against the four-time world champions.
"It's the time to break that series," Podolski told Bild.
"Since 2006 we have improved enormously. Today we have a whole different philosophy and a different team. The Italians also know that.
"One thing is clear - we want to be in the final, so we have to beat the Italians. Therefore, this will hopefully be the end for Italy in this European Championship."
