Zieler has been omitted from Joachim Low's plans for the friendlies against England and Italy after Borussia Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller was handed his first call-up.
Former Manchester United youngster Zieler was Germany's third-choice keeper at Euro 2012 and has won two caps for the national team.
"As an athlete, it's definitely a pity not to be inside the current Germany squad," the 24-year-old told kicker-Sportmagazin.
"I can only accept this decision. This decision has been taken that way.
"All I am able to say is that I would have loved to stay part of the Germany squad for these matches."
Speaking last week, Germany coach Low outlined his reasons for giving Weidenfeller his opportunity to impress ahead of next summer's World Cup in Brazil.
"Manuel Neuer remains our clear number one and we also know what Rene Adler or the younger goalkeepers like Ron-Robert Zieler and Marc-Andre ter Stegen can give us," said Low.
"We've been watching Roman Weidenfeller for a long time and his consistently strong performances for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and the Champions League have been noted.
"We're now looking forward to having him with us and getting to know him better."
