The Spaniards crashed out to co-hosts South Korea in controversial circumstances after a penalty shoot-out defeat last weekend.
The 35-year-old has won over 60 caps for his country and he admitted he has got a big decision to make as to whether to join to Fernando Hierro and Luis Enrique in stepping down from the international fold.
"When you take such a decision you can't go back on it afterwards," said Nadal.
"I will have to think carefully about whether or not to retire.
"I'm not bothered that I would be following Fernando Hierro and Luis Enrique in making that decision, but it is a decision you should only make after time and calm reflection.
"It's not only up to me, when you take such a decision you can't go back on it afterwards. This is a moment in life when you have to think twice. You have to consider the consequences especially if you believe in what you do."
The Real Mallorca man also hit out at criticism he came in for from sections of the Spanish media for his performances.
"I felt really disappointed because I was criticised for several reasons which had nothing to do with football," he said. "I was really surprised about how violently I was attacked."
