Argentina off to Japan

ARGENTINA have accepted an invitation to play in the Kirim Cup in Japan this summer.

AFA spokesman Hector Dominguez confirmed that Marcelo Bielsa`s side will fly out to the Far East in June, where they will face the host nation in Osaka on June 8.

Dominguez said: "We have received the invitation from the Japanese federation to play in the Kirim Cup in Japan and we have accepted it."

European-based players are likely to be included in the party, which could well anger the likes of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Scot is one of many managers who do not like their players jetting around the globe, but he will almost certainly see Juan Sebastian Veron make the long trip.

"We have already told the coach Marcelo Bielsa about this chance so he has enough time for deciding if he calls players that are in Europe or if he plays with the ones that are in Argentinian teams," added Dominguez.

Argentina will hope for better luck than last summer, when they were knocked out of the World Cup at the group stages.
