Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has been left baffled by Argentina's decision to call up injured striker Sergio Aguero as a club-versus-country row escalates.
The forward has been included in his country's squad for the forthcoming matches against Paraguay and Peru on 7th and 11th September.
That conflicts with the timescale City had set for Aguero's recovery from the knee injury which saw him stretchered off in the early stages of last weekend's eventual win over Southampton.
And Mancini, who did not expect the former Atletico Madrid player to be back until the meeting with Stoke City on 15th September at the earliest, is confused.
"I don't understand this, I don't understand," he said.
"The national manager should understand this is a serious case. A bad injury."
Argentina have asked for Aguero to report for the two games against Paraguay in Cordoba and Peru in Lima.
And Mancini said: "These games are really strange because all the players are not ready to go. I don't understand this. Sometimes the players are not ready for this game.
"Aguero is not so bad like we thought. After the international break he will be ready. Two or three weeks.
"It is a bad injury but not for six months. After two weeks he can start to train maybe."
