Gilberto Silva says Luiz Felipe Scolari has the ability to make tough calls under pressure.
Brazilian World Cup midfielder Gilberto Silva has hailed Luiz Felipe Scolari for his ability to make tough calls under pressure.
The Portugal coach has the chance to underline his reputation as Sven Goran Eriksson's nemesis on Saturday when he prepares his side to face England, having eliminated The Three Lions from the past two major tournaments at the quarter final stage.
Scolari was also a front-runner to replace Eriksson until he withdrew his interest in the international post, and Arsenal midfielder Gilberto says the former Brazil coach's willingness to make tough judgment calls for the benefit of the team is the key to his success.
"Players respect Felipe because they know he only does what he thinks is best for the team," Gilberto told The Mirror.
"He is prepared to make tough decisions in difficult situations.
"He showed that by picking me for the World Cup [in 2002].
"That was probably the toughest decision he had to make, I hadn't even played one full competitive match and there were some other far more experienced players in the squad."
