Brazil will definitely be without playmaker Elano for Friday's World Cup quarter-final against with Holland.
The Galatasaray midfielder had been doubtful to feature following his bone-shuddering challenge with Ivory Coast's Cheik Tiote in their final group game.
Brazil's team doctor Jose Luiz Runco has confirmed Elano's injury remains swollen meaning he still cannot undertake any impact training.
Runco is not ruling Elano out of the remainder of the finals, stating only that he could return to full training from anywhere between a few days to a month.
"He can walk and run without changing direction, the problem is the impact, when he puts weight on it," explained Runco.
"The bone is swollen inside, hence the name. The treatment is to avoid impact, he can work in a swimming pool and on the exercise bike.
"He could be better in a few days, a week or a month. We still hope he can play next week but I can't say that categorically.
"He is working intensely so we have to see if nature can give a helping hand."
