Martin's starting stats

I was at Old Trafford on Saturday to witness Manchester United's 47th Premier League game against Liverpool. They have won 26 and there has only been one draw in the last 20. United have now won six of their last eight Premier League clashes.

We saw the first away goals conceded by Liverpool this season plus the first home goal conceded by United in the league. Anthony Martial became the 39th different player used by Louis van Gaal in the Premier League in his 43 games in charge.

Daley Blind scored his first goal at Old Trafford having scored late equalisers at West Brom and West Ham last season. Simon Mignolet played in his 200th career game in England after being dropped for this fixture last season and Morgan Schneiderlin made his 100th Premier League appearance.

United had a number of players playing against Liverpool for the first time - Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Martial - and Luke Shaw for the first time in a Manchester United shirt.

I first came across Shaw when he was 10 years old in a local schools match playing against the team I was coaching. He was so good we marked him man for man (or boy for boy) - the only time I ever did that with a 10 year old! I wish him the best for a full and speedy recovery and he will be much thought of when we go to St Mary's for the meeting of Southampton and United live on Sky Sports this weekend.

Claudio Ranieri looks on during the Capital One Cup second round match between Bury and Leicester City
Image: Claudio Ranieri has picked up 11 points from his first five games

Is Claudio Ranieri's start to the season the best by a new manager? Gary, Leicester

MARTIN SAYS: It's been a remarkable start for Ranieri at Leicester, and Sunday's dramatic comeback against Aston Villa put them up to second in the Premier League table with 11 points from his first five games in charge.

Only Carlo Ancelotti has enjoyed a perfect start in the first five Premier League games at a new club, winning all five matches and therefore getting 15 points when he took over at Chelsea in 2009.

Another Blues boss, Jose Mourinho, and Tim Sherwood at Tottenham are among five bosses who picked up 13 points in their first five games. The others are Frank Clark (Nottingham Forest), Glenn Roeder (Newcastle) and Roy Hodgson (Blackburn).

The other managers to have had a better start than Ranieri are Alan Ball (Southampton), Guus Hiddink (Chelsea), John Gregory (Aston Villa) and Roberto Mancini (Man City). They all picked up 12 points in their first five games.

Ranieri's start actually matches that of Peter Taylor, who also picked up 11 points from his first five games in charge of Leicester when he took over in 2001. They went on to finish 13th that year.

Are Manchester City close to the longest winning streak in the Premier League? Leanne

Manchester City have started the Premier League season in imperious form. Five games, five wins with 11 goals scored and none conceded. This run has seen them win their last 11 games, including the final six games of last season. This is the joint third longest winning streak in Premier League history.

City now need just three more victories to draw level with Arsenal's record of 14 Premier League wins on the bounce in 2002. That ended with a 2-2 draw against West Ham - who are City's opponents on Saturday. In order to break this record, City will have to defeat West Ham (h), Tottenham (a), Newcastle United (h) and Bournemouth (h).

City are one game short of matching Manchester United's best ever winning streak of 12 games in 2000.

City also need to go one more game without conceding to equal the record set by Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, who didn't concede a goal in the first six games of the 2005/06 season.

Keeping it clean

Image: Tony Pulis has a strong record of keeping clean sheets

Does any manager have a better clean sheet record in the Premier League than Tony Pulis? Max

West Brom have already stopped Watford, Stoke and Southampton scoring against them in the Premier League this season. Tony Pulis has seen his West Brom side keep 13 clean sheets in his 23 top-flight games in charge - an impressive return of 56.5 per cent.

Pulis' Stoke side kept a clean sheet in 29.5 per cent of their games. That average was bettered when Pulis took charge at Crystal Palace, who shut out the opposition in 38.5 per cent of their games under his charge.

Pulis' career average clean-sheet record is 33.1 per cent - which is the 22nd best record of any manager in Premier League history.

The best record is held by Jose Mourinho (51.7 per cent), followed by Rafael Benitez (44.9 per cent), Roberto Mancini (44.4%) and Sir Alex Ferguson (44.3%).

Of current bosses, Manuel Pellegrini is second behind Mourinho (43.2 per cent), followed by Ronald Koeman (41.9 per cent), Arsene Wenger (39.2 per cent), Claudio Ranieri (38.4 per cent) and Brendan Rodgers (36.3 per cent).

Pulis is next on the list and interestingly, has kept a higher percentage of clean sheets than Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal (32.6 per cent).

Of managers who have taken charge of more than Pulis' 239 Premier League games, only Rafa Benitez, Ferguson, Wenger, Gerard Houllier ,George Graham and David O'Leary have a better clean sheet record - and all of those managed teams that finished in the top four, something Pulis has never done.

Hat-trick super subs

Steven Naismith of Everton celebrates scoring the opening goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Everton and Chelsea
Image: Steven Naismith is the sixth player to score a hat-trick as a substitute int he Premier League

Steven Naismith scored a hat-trick against Chelsea on Saturday, but what other players have scored three or more goals in the Premier League after coming on as a substitute? Paul

Steven Naismith was at the centre of all the transfer chaos on Deadline Day. Norwich placed an £8m bid and the feeling was he would leave due to a lack of starts at Everton.

But Naismith stayed, and his spectacular hat-trick off the bench makes him just the sixth player in Premier League history to hit a treble as a substitute.

Naismith joins a list of players which includes:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: (for Man Utd v Nottingham Forest, 06/02/1999)

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: (for Chelsea v Wolves, 27/03/2004)

Robert Earnshaw: (for West Brom v Charlton, 19/03/2005)

Emmanuel Adebayor: (for Arsenal v Derby, 28/04/2008)

Romelu Lukaku:.(for West Brom v Man Utd, 19/05/2013)
