Luuk de Jong capped a 24-minute blitz as PSV Eindhoven stormed back to the top of the Eredivisie, at least for 24 hours, with a 4-1 win over NEC in Nijmegen.

Still smarting from last weekend's frustrating goalless draw at home to Groningen, the visitors did not make the same mistake again as they snatched the lead inside four minutes on Saturday.

De Jong set up the opener from Bart Ramselaar and just six minutes later, De Jong got in on the act again to tee up the second for Gaston Pereiro.

Joshua Brenet made it three with 20 minutes on the clock and four minutes later De Jong himself got on the scoresheet to complete the rout.

AZ moved up to fourth with their second consecutive home win, Alireza Jahanbakhsh netting early and Levi Garcia adding an injury time second in a 2-0 success over Willem II.

Excelsior hit back from two consecutive defeats to move up to fifth place with a 3-1 win over Heracles.
