Edinson Cavani scored both goals as Paris St-Germain beat Nantes 2-0 on Saturday to move within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Nice.

Uruguay international Cavani opened the scoring midway through the first half and made it 26 goals in as many matches for PSG in all competitions this season by adding a second in the 65th minute.

The victory lifts Unai Emery's side level on points with second-placed Monaco and one behind Nice, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Bastia on Friday night. Monaco play Lorient at home on Sunday.

Cavani drilled home a low finish following Lucas Moura's cross in the 21st minute, and after Thomas Meunier had hit the crossbar in the second half, the South American striker scored direct from a free-kick into the top corner.

Guingamp stay in fifth place after drawing 1-1 at home against 10-man Rennes. Rennes played with 10 men in the second half following the dismissal in first-half stoppage time of midfielder Sanjin Prcic for two yellow cards.

Moustapha Diallo headed Guingamp into a 39th-minute lead, but the visitors equalised through Yoann Gourcuff just after the restart.

Bordeaux leapfrogged Toulouse into eighth place after beating them 1-0.

Valentin Vada's first-minute goal was enough to clinch the points for Bordeaux after Toulouse midfielder Yann Bodiger was shown a straight red card shortly before half-time for his foul on Jeremy Toulalan.

Metz boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 home win against Montpellier, with Cheick Tidiane Diabate's first-half double securing them their first success in seven league games.

Dijon and Lille remain 15th and 14th respectively following their goalless draw at Stade Gaston Gerard.
