There was an awkward moment in Bastian Schweinsteiger’s introductory press conference when the German was bizarrely asked if he could help his new club Chicago Fire win the World Cup.
The 32-year-old midfielder, who officially completed his move from Manchester United on Wednesday, was introduced to the American press later in the day as Major League Soccer's latest marquee addition.
But Schweinsteiger was lost for words when a journalist asked whether his arrival would help Chicago mount a serious "World Cup" challenge.
A bemused Schweinsteiger had to lean over to Chicago Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic for clarification.
A club official interjected to tell the German the question must have referred to the World Club Cup before the journalist helpfully offered to "rephrase".
The journalist then said: "Do you expect - now that you are here Bastian - that a World Cup goal for Chicago Fire is a realistic expectation?"
This prompted Schweinsteiger to burst out laughing and Chicago Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez was forced to explain.
