Celtic have confirmed winger Jonny Hayes suffered a broken leg in the 2-0 Boxing Day win over Dundee and is unlikely to play again this season.

Hayes, 30, and Dundee defender Josh Meekings were both substituted after colliding together in a challenge at Dens Park on Tuesday, with the former carried from the field on a stretcher as a result.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers had said after the game that he was hopeful Hayes only suffered bruising to his shin, but tests have confirmed a broken leg.

"Celtic Football Club has to report that, regrettably, Jonny Hayes suffered a broken leg during the game against Dundee at Dens Park," the club said in a statement.
