Bolton have completed the signing of former Sunderland player Jan Kirchhoff on a contract until the end of the season.

Kirchhoff - who is comfortable at centre-back and central midfield - played 23 times for the Black Cats after signing from Bayern Munich in January 2016.

He was released by Sunderland at the end of last season following their relegation from the Premier League and following talks with the Trotters on Wednesday, the 27-year-old has now agreed a short-term deal at the Macron Stadium.

"I'm really pleased to be here and happy to be back in football," he told Bolton's official website.

"I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and to play for this great team."

Bolton boss Phil Parkinson was also pleased to have signed an experienced player as they continue their battle to avoid the drop to Sky Bet League One.
