The 'mini beast from the East' hit Oakwell but Barnsley will still host Millwall

Snow and ice affected football around the country with Saturday's League One game between Gillingham and Blackburn called off.

The 'Mini Beast from the East' had been expected to disrupt this weekend's sporting fixtures, and claimed its first victim in the English Football League.

Gillingham posted on Twitter: "Today's game against @Rovers has been postponed."

Blackburn tweeted: "Game off: on the advice of the police and the Safety Advisory Group, today's match against Gillingham has been postponed in the interest of spectator safety. #Rovers"

A statement on the Blackburn website added: "Whilst the pitch was playable, heavy snowfall had caused a health and safety concern for supporters inside the stadium."
