Dele Alli, Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford tipped to start England's World Cup opener

Gareth Southgate has named his 23-man England squad but who's most likely to start in their World Cup opener?

Having decided to leave the likes of Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere at home, Southgate will now turn his attention to selecting a side to face Tunisia on June 18.

Here's how the Sky Bet odds suggest England are most likely to line up in Volgograd - but you can have your say - and change the formation - with our team selector…

England most likey XI

Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford

At 1/4 favourite, 24-year-old Jordan Pickford is expected to cement the England number one spot in Russia, despite never making a competitive appearance for the Three Lions.

The Everton stopper has started just twice for the senior national side, but with previous regular No 1 Joe Hart not on the plane, the path is clear for Pickford to step up.

Stoke's Jack Butland is his closest competition with odds of 10/3 to start the opener versus Tunisia, whereas Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is rank outsider at 10/1.

Wing-backs: Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose

With Gareth Southgate expected to opt for the back five system trialled in England's most recent friendlies, Kieran Trippier (1/4) is favourite to start in the right-wing back position. Trent Alexander-Arnold's fairy-tale season sees him providing the competition as a 3/1 shot.

According to the odds, Spurs will provide both the full-backs with Danny Rose 2/5 favourite to play on the opposite flank, while Fabian Delph is an outsider at 14/1 to start.

Centre-backs: Kyle Walker, John Stones and Harry Maguire

John Stones and title-winning Manchester City team-mate Kyle Walker are considered bankers to start England opener at 1/6 and 1/10 respectively.

Leicester's Harry Maguire is the other centre-back expected to make the cut at 2/5 but Phil Jones (6/4) and Gary Cahill (6/1) will be looking to stake a late claim to the role.

However, it remains to be seen whether Southgate will utilise Eric Dier as central midfielder or as a defender, which could dash the trio's hopes.

Central midfielders: Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson

Wherever deployed, Dier is fancied to feature under Southgate, with the Tottenham man 1/6 to start in Russia. Liverpool's Jordan Henderson also looks all-but certain at 1/4 and is second-favourite to captain England's opener.

Attacking midfielders: Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli

A price of 1/8 indicates that Raheem Sterling, who has enjoyed a stellar Premier League season for Manchester City, has done more than enough to justify his starting spot in Volgograd.

Dele Alli (4/11) just edges Manchester United's Jesse Lingard in what is considered the most contentious call for Southgate, although both could be incorporated if an attacking approach is deployed.

Striker: Harry Kane

Captaincy favourite Harry Kane is, alongside Walker, the shortest-priced contender to be in Southgate's line-up at 1/10 to spearhead the team.

That means Leicester's Jamie Vardy (5/2 to start), who notched 20 Premier League goals this term, is expected to have to settle for a place on the bench.
