Former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan had a medical at Rangers on Wednesday, Sky Sports News understands.

Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister revealed that the 25-year-old full-back has held talks with the Scottish Premiership side and a deal is near completion.

Some newspaper reports have suggested that Flanagan will join up with the rest of the Rangers squad, who are currently in southern Spain for a pre-season training camp.

If Flanagan completes the move, he would be reuniting with former teammate Steven Gerrard and would be the latest of several arrivals at Ibrox.

Flanagan, who made 51 appearances for Liverpool during eight years at the club, would provide backup for current Rangers first-team regular James Tavernier, whose future is still uncertain.
