Sky Sports understands that Hull City have opened talks with Doncaster regarding highly-rated full-back James Husband.

The 20-year-old has spent the last two seasons proving himself at Football League level, in the second and third tiers.

He is now being tipped to take the step up into the Premier League, with Hull boss Steve Bruce eager to buy into his potential.

Doncaster are aware of the mounting interest and boss Paul Dickov has admitted that discussions over improved terms at the Keepmoat Stadium will be shelved if Husband expresses a desire to move on.

He told The Star: “We need to sit down and have conversations with James and his advisers to find out whether he wants to stay.

“It’s pointless us putting a new deal to him if he has his heart set on leaving.

“If he wants to stay, no doubt there will be a new contract offer.

“I suppose it’s been dependent on what’s happened with the takeover of the club as well.”

Dickov added: “I won’t stand in anyone’s way if they express the desire to leave because what I can do now is offer players long-term security and buying into the long-term success of the club.

“If someone doesn’t want to be part of that, in the nicest possible sense, they can go.”
