Celtic manager Ronny Deila is confident Wednesday's Scottish Premiership opener at St Johnstone will kick-start his club's season.

The McDiarmid Park contest will be Norwegian Deila’s first competitive domestic game and he is aiming to start the campaign with all three points.

The Scottish Cup holders began their own season at the weekend with a 2-1 victory at Ross County.

The league flag is due to be unfurled by former owner Fergus McCann at Celtic Park on Saturday ahead of the visit of Dundee United, but Deila will be targeting an improved performance after the recent 6-1 two-legged Champions League qualifier defeat to Legia Warsaw.

Celtic won a reprieve in Europe due to a registration error of a Legia player, but Deila said ahead of the trip to Perth: "It’s going to very exciting to get into a rhythm and work every day to get improvements.

"The team who improves most of all during the season will win the league and we have a strong squad, the best in Scotland.

“So if we keep on playing well and developing, we will have a very good chance to win it. We have the cups as well, and I know how good it is to win a cup and be in a cup final, so we have a lot to fight for this season.”
