Artur Boruc is hopeful that his loan switch to Bournemouth will boost his chances of becoming Poland’s No.1 goalkeeper.
Fraser Forster’s move from Celtic to Southampton this summer left Boruc as second choice at St Mary’s, and he felt he needed to head out in pursuit of regular football.
A loan deal until January was agreed with Bournemouth and he made his debut for the Championship club in their 1-1 draw against Watford on Saturday.
Boruc is convinced that he made the right decision to link up with Ediie Howe’s squad rather than fight for his place at Southampton, and believes he can push Wojciech Szczesny out of the Poland team with some consistently impressive performances.
He told the Daily Echo: “I’m an ambitious guy and that’s the reason I’m here.
"I’m not the type of guy who will sit on the bench and watch others.
“I would like to be in the national team and that will not be the situation if I am not playing. The manager (Adam Nawalka) preferred Wojciech Szczesny last time and that’s why I want to play (club football) again.
“With the situation I’m in, it helps me to play every week. I did not have many chances back in Southampton and Bournemouth is not far from there.
"I thought about my kids when I made the decision and for me, life will stay the same. I am doing what I love and that’s the main thing.”
