Slovakia boss Vladimir Weiss admitted his side could do nothing to nullify the threat of Holland's Arjen Robben, despite three days of preparation.
The Slovaks exited the 2010 World Cup at the last 16 stage after falling to a 2-1 loss against the Dutch in Durban.
Key Holland winger Robben was making his first start of the tournament and opened the scoring with a fine goal in the first half.
Wesley Sneijder put the game beyond Slovakia while Robert Vittek scored a late consolation from the penalty spot.
Weiss highlighted the display of Robben, saying: "We were preparing for three days for Robben, for his way of playing but he is an absolute genius.
"He really knows what he is doing. When I saw him in the line-up I knew he would make the Dutch line-up 50 per cent stronger and I was correct."
Weiss, though, paid tribute to his charges, adding: "We played with heart and courage and we are proud that we made it to the second round, but the better team advanced.
"The penalty at the end will make us feel better during our flight back home."
