The LA Galaxy striker has been struggling with an Achilles injury and he watched from the sidelines as the Republic of Ireland suffered a 6-1 thrashing to Germany in their World Cup qualifier.
Keane is yet to be ruled out of Tuesday night's Group C game in Torshavn and Trapattoni will seek the advice of medical staff about his fitness.
Centre-back John O'Shea responded defiantly after Trapattoni's former assistant Liam Brady admitted the Ireland boss had nowhere to hide following the humbling result in Dublin.
"Look, it's easy for Liam to say that straight away just after a result like that. Fair enough - everyone is gutted," said O'Shea.
"There's a way to lose a game and that's not the way to do it.
"Obviously, we know Germany are major favourites for the group. Beforehand, everyone was talking about us battling for second place here.
"In hindsight after a result like that, it's easy to make a sweeping statement like that, but if we finish second in the group, what will that statement look like then?"
