The Stoke City frontman, who is nursing an ankle problem, was not involved as under-fire manager Giovanni Trapattoni put his players through their paces in Malahide.
Hull midfielder Stephen Quinn, who was drafted into the squad as a replacement for hamstring victim Glenn Whelan on Saturday, did take part in the session.
Ireland, currently in fourth place in Group C, head for Vienna knowing anything less than victory will effectively scupper their hopes of a play-off ticket for next summer's finals.
