Charlie's dream team

Charlie Nicholas is the latest expert to name his Premier League team of the season for 2011/12.

As the season reaches its climax, Soccer Saturday expert Charlie Nicholas names his Premier League team of 2011/12

GOALKEEPER

Some of the Premier League's goalkeepers have had great seasons. Michel Vorm of Swansea has been excellent, David de Gea has come through well and Tim Krul of Newcastle deserves a mention, but I'm going to have to go with Joe Hart. He has developed into a magnificent world-class goalkeeper.

DEFENDERS

I'm going with four at the back. I never thought I'd say this but Fabricio Coloccini has to be in there because he's had an absolutely fantastic season and if you're looking for another centre-back I think Vincent Kompany nails down that position. The full-back positions are quite tough, but I've always liked Leighton Baines - he always sparkles for me and he's the main player for Everton. At right-back I would go for Micah Richards; he doesn't always get the nod at Man City and I don't know why, but he never complains about that. He's a great athlete, he's great at getting forward and he plays like a right-winger at times. I'm amazed he's only just got back in the England team.

MIDFIELDERS

David Silva has to be in the team and I would probably put Antonio Valencia in there from Man United for his pace and power. I think he dragged Man United back into it when they were out of it. I would also have Yohan Cabaye, who is a really good technical footballer but, what's more, he looks like he's adapted to the physical side of the English game. It's very rare that we see guys grasp that in their first season but he's done it quickly and while Hatem Ben Arfa might have caught the eye a bit more recently, Cabaye is the one for me that has got that little bit extra to supply the forwards. He's one of the reasons Newcastle have scored so many goals.

FORWARDS

I would like to pick someone from Norwich or Swansea because they've been so good to watch, but it's hard to pinpoint individuals for my team of the season. However, I would like to put Fulham's Clint Dempsey in my team and I'd have him playing just behind the two strikers. He's an unglamorous player, but with his goalscoring record I wouldn't be surprised if at least two or three of the top six or seven sides aren't interested in taking him. He has a great attitude and is a great pro. Up front, Robin van Persie has to get in there because he's been out of this world. He's carried Arsenal for such a long time and there's no doubt he is the main striker. I would probably put him alongside Sergio Aguero, who is a little superstar magician and is lovely to watch. Matt Le Tissier has already named his team of 2011/12. Check it out here. Keep an eye on skysports.com over the next couple of weeks as Soccer Saturday regulars Jeff Stelling, Paul Merson and Phil Thompson will also be naming their teams of the season.
