Carlisle manager Greg Abbott has expressed his disappointment but understands midfielder Tom Taiwo's decision to leave the club.

Out-of-contract Taiwo, 22, has opted not to extend his stay at Brunton Park due to family reasons and will end his three-year spell with the Cumbrians. "Tom has been to my house twice and I've met him once at a neutral venue over the course of the last few weeks and I think this has been a tough decision for him to make," Abbott told the club's official website. "We've had some long discussions, but he's decided that he's not going to stay with us at this particular moment. During the conversations we had he told me that his personal circumstances had changed this year, with the arrival of a baby, and he's in a situation where he doesn't want to relocate to the area full-time. "In addition he doesn't want to commute and spend too much time away from his little girl so he's decided to stay where he is and try and find a club nearer to home." Abbott, who worked with Taiwo during his formative years at Leeds when the Carlisle boss was a coach at Elland Road, added: "He's consulted with his family and we have to respect the reasons he's given us. I tried to offer him some alternatives, but all I hope now is that he's done the right thing and that it works out for him."
