Conor Sammon is focusing on earning a place in Wigan Athletic's starting line-up after dismissing talk of a possible loan move to Derby County.
The striker has scored just once in 34 appearances for Wigan since his transfer from Kilmarnock in January 2011 and he has started only nine times in the Premier League.
Reports had claimed that Championship side Derby were lining up a move to take the 25-year-old on loan for the first half of the season.
However, Sammon is not looking to quit the DW Stadium and is instead aiming to force his way into Roberto Martinez's plans on a more regular basis.
"I've not heard anything about that," Sammon told the Wigan Evening Post regarding the speculation about Derby.
"As far as I'm concerned, I'm just totally focused on playing for Wigan, trying to break into the team, getting more starts and putting myself in contention.
"In the short term, my goals are to get my head down, get fit as quickly as possible, and trying to kick on.
"I'm really looking forward to the season. It's a new start, a new slate.
"We've all had a good summer where all you want to do is switch off. But you come back for the first day of pre-season totally refreshed and raring to go for the new season.
"The challenge is for the team to start the season as we finished last year, and hopefully we can knuckle down and make sure we do that."
